About Hadestown

Journey to the Underworld with this innovative retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice against a Depression-era backdrop at the Lyric Theatre. Book Hadestown tickets on London Theatre.

Hadestown follows Eurydice as she makes a desperate decision to work in Hades' hellish factory to escape poverty and the cold winter. Separated from Orpheus, he embarks upon a dangerous quest to bring her back. Their story interweaves with the mythic narratives of Hades and Persephone, while other iconic figures like Hermes and the Fates appear throughout the musical. Read our complete guide to Hadestown in the West End.

Anaïs Mitchell originally released the fusion of New Orleans jazz and American folk melodies as a concept album in 2010 to critical appraisal. In 2016, Hadestown premiered in Canada and later opened at London's National Olivier Theatre in 2018 under the direction of Rachel Chavkin. The musical opened on Broadway in April 2019 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

Chavkin and Mitchell are joined by an award-winning team, including set designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Michael Krass, lighting designer Bradley King, choreographer David Neumann, and sound designers Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz.

Absorbing, Ambitious, Great Singing, Intelligent, Masterful

See it if you are looking for great Jazz music and you wish to be mesmerized by amazing voices of Hades and Persephone

Don’t see it if you expect to fully grasp all the exposition and the plot without any pre-read (it is quite difficult through most of singing and mumbling)

See it if My favorite part of the West End musical was its profound message about perseverance and the value of trying, even in the face of failure.
