About Harry Clarke

Don’t miss Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Billy Crudup’s West End debut in Harry Clarke, a comedic thriller in which Crudup impressively plays all 19 characters. Book Harry Clarke tickets on London Theatre.

Harry Clarke has been a hit for years. The show's world premiere in 2017, produced by New York’s Vineyard Theatre, was sold out and twice extended. In November and December 2023, it was staged at Berkeley’s Repertory Theatre in California, where it broke records.

Now in the West End, Crudup is once again showing his immense talent, playing all the characters in the darkly comedic thriller. The Harry Clarke play tells the story of Philip Brugglestein, a bumbling Midwesterner who moves to New York City and reinvents himself as Harry Clarke, a charismatic Londoner who uses his charm to become close with a wealthy family. As the show progresses, Philip/Harry’s behavior becomes increasingly risky, threatening to have his web of lies fall apart.

As Crudup told the San Jose News during the play’s Berkeley run, “It’s part charm show, it’s part thrill ride, and then it’s a claustrophobic attack in the style of film noir.”

The show marks Crudup’s West End debut, but he is no stranger to the theatre. In 2007, he earned a Tony Award for his role as Vissarion Belinsky in Tom Stoppard’s The Coast of Utopia. Audiences may also recognize Crudup for his roles on the big and small screen—in 2020, he received an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Cory Ellison in The Morning Show. He is also known for his starring film roles in Almost Famous and Big Fish.

Harry Clarke in London also boasts a star-studded creative team. Writer David Cale won an Obie in 1999 for Lillian, and two-time Obie-winning director Leigh Silverman stages the production. The minimal set highlights the incredible writing, directing, and acting.

See it if You appreciate excellent acting and a very funny, wry play.

Don’t see it if You prefer ensemble pieces and would be bored by a solo show and questionable narrator.
