Find yourself in a world full of possibilities this winter as Pinocchio, a brand-new family-friendly musical by Charlie Josephine and Jim Fortune, premieres at Shakespeare’s Globe. Book Pinocchio tickets on London Theatre.
In a quiet town, a man of great imagination named Geppetto longs for deep connection and a sense of purpose. One night, with these thoughts on his mind, he carves a puppet from a block of wood. Much to his own surprise, the puppet miraculously comes to life, and the pair set off on an unexpected adventure. During their journey together, Pinocchio meets a cast of brilliant characters, faces all sorts of trials and temptations, and learns what it means to be brave.
This new adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s classic tale reframes it for a contemporary audience, placing self-discovery and the magic of imagination as the center and heart of Pinocchio’s journey. Josephine and Fortune’s masterful retelling emphasises the deeply human bond between creator and creation, parent and child, inviting audiences to reflect on what it means to care for one another and carve out a place in this world.
Performed in the Globe’s wooden ‘O,’ a theatre carved from wood, this new musical transforms this historic, magical space into a world where puppets dance and the boundaries between fairytales and reality blur. Pinocchio is a musical filled with warmth and humour. This is a tale that celebrates community, love, and the courage to be honest.
