About Fallen Angels

Exactly 100 years since its premiere, Noël Coward’s beloved comedy, Fallen Angels, returns to the London stage at Menier Chocolate Factory. Book Fallen Angels tickets on London Theatre.

Fallen Angels is a play that tells the story of Jane and Julia, best friends who are both married. With their husbands gone for the day, an ex-boyfriend from the past returns, with explosive results.

Fallen Angels premiered in 1925 at the Globe Theatre (now the Gielgud Theatre). The play was subject to scrutiny by the censorship office of the Lord Chamberlain due to the discussions of pre-marital sex. Eventually, the necessary licence was granted, but that was only after the personal intervention of the Chamberlain.

The original staging has an exceptional cast, which included Tallulah Bankhead and Edna Best. This staging of Fallen Angels in London stars two-time Olivier Award winner Janie Dee (Follies) as Julia, and Alexandra Gilbreath (Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew) as Jane. The cast also includes Christopher Hollis (My Cousin Rachel), Richard Teverson (Witness for the Prosecution), Sarah Twomey (The Southbury Child), and Graham Vick, who, in addition to being an actor, is a talented production designer.

The talented creative team includes director Christopher Luscombe, set designer Simon Higlett, costume designer Fotini Dimou, lighting designer Oliver Fenwick, sound designer Adam Cork, music by Nigel Hess, wigs, hair, and makeup designer Betty Marini, and movement by Nicola Keen.

Audiences won’t want to miss this timeless comedy and one of Noël Coward’s exceptional works of theatre, brought to life for the first time in London in 25 years.
